French will help you a bit with some of the vocab (i.e. 'Büro' comes from 'bureau'), but in terms of grammar, French and Spanish will help you very, very, little =]

Hope it helps !
References :
Fluent French Speaker, Conversational in German, Lived in Europe Most of My Life

well,I have to say.
German its self,Is hard Like the grammar
'Der,die,Das'
Etc.

I'm a Native german, and i find French closer to german.
I think it Makes It easier to understand, rather than spanish, because some words do sound similar.
French Is also closer to english.

So I think you should go with french :D
Its a Beautiful Language and it eventually will help you out with your German.

Good Luck. (:
References :
me.

No. German is very similar to English. Spanish and French are romance languages whose structures and vocabulary are entirely different from English and German, both of which are Germanic languages. Other than simply practice in how to learn a foreign language, French and Spanish will not help you with learning German. However, there is something to be said for learning "how" to learn a foreign language. Spanish was the first language I studied and while it didn't help me with most of the languages I learned later in terms of grammar or vocabulary, it definitely taught me the basics of how to learn vocabulary, how languages are structured and how to understand them, and how to learn and remember grammar rules. So it's definitely not a bad thing to learn French or Spanish! Both of these languages have some similarities with English, but neither is closer than the other, really. I'd say go with Spanish because it's so much more commonly spoken, and can be really helpful in lots of places around the world, including the US.
